I use my sketch book and photographs as a starting point for some paintings ; at other times direct studies in paint suggest the colour and mood for a larger piece of work. Drawing can be an important element , helping me understand the structure of a landscape and working out compositions. Whilst sketching outside I can get a feel for the rhythms of a place, but sometimes I will improvise instead and let my memory lead the way ; I like being inventive. The images shown here represent my exploration of the harbour area in Aberystwyth, and of Tanybwlch, just further south. Run your mouse over the small images on the left to view a larger version and for more details on each picture |
